I would like to use this forum to express my immense gratitude to Mr Damon Chou, Duty Manager at the Dong Fang Hotel on the night of September 26, 2019. My husband & I found ourselves facing a seemingly insurmountable problem that essentially translated to “no way we can be in Hong Kong by 4pm the next day.” Mr Chou went above and beyond his duty to assist us. He used his personal account to purchase literally the last 2 tickets for the train that we needed to take the next day. Dong Fang Hotel is so fortunate to have employees like Mr Damon Chou.

Our experience overall with this hotel has been a disaster!! I am not recommending it especially if you are foreign. Customer service is extremely bad, they all pretend to speak English and they answer yes or no just to get rid of you. They lied to us, declined our packages, my phone got lost in the taxi they offered me no support whatsoever, plus the stuff is extremely rude and they speak no English. Here is a breakdown with clear description of all events: 1. Rooms are big but carpet is very old and smelly, rooms smell of damp or mould. Cleaners enter your room at 10 am every morning without knocking and even if your "do not disturb" sign is on 2. I lost my phone in a taxi that dropped me outside the hotel. They said they will check the cameras for me but when I went back they told me they couldn't see any green car, kind of telling me that I wasn't dropped outside the hotel and I am lying. They all the time try to blame you for everything. Basically my phone disappeared in a taxi that they could've contacted by checking the cameras but instead they lied saying they didn't see any. 3. Asked them at concierge if we can have a package sent there they said yes. Concierge was actually accepting packages thats why we asked as I've seen other guests picking them up. When package arrives they decline it. Then when we tell them they say they didn't decline it and package never arrived (again lying), then to get rid of us, one guy in concierge says that for this they will send it to London and we should take his WeChat. The day after on WeChat he is saying he tried everything and there's nothing else he can do and they can't send the package over. So basically again lies just to get rid of us. 4. Outside the hotel if you try to sit down on the side the porters will come shouting at you to stand up in a very aggressive way Very disappointed, unbelievably rude and the worse customer service ever!!!! For the same money you can stay in a much better place and be treated much nicer or at least be treated with respect! Worse choice ever!! If you are not chinese don't go there!!!

Hotel is good for a business's stay! This hotel is situated in the middle of the city which is very close to pearl river, beijing street, pedestrian street, and onelink store and a lot other attraction of Guangzhao. Air-conditioned rooms come with free wired internet, a seating area and a flat-screen TV with cable channels. En suite bathrooms include free toiletries, hairdryers and shower facilities. The room was small but clean, good for 2 ppl in a twin room. My room was totally fine, not like others reviewed. If you are fussy, this place is not for you. A selection of Chinese cuisine can be enjoyed at the hotel’s restaurant. Room service is available. Easy access to anywhere and many restaurants and minimarts in this area. The staffs are friendly and helpful. Thanks to all the staff and especially Ada. Some uplift for the bathroom needs to be done. Great stay!!!

I have stayed in this hotel a couple of times but this was due to convenience of location of the hotel. Walking distance to subway station (yide lu) and close to the wholesale centre for toys and stationery and some other dried food. The room stinks of cigarette!!! Rooms have never been upgraded since the last time I stayed 2 years ago. I remember the last time I stayed, there was a huge cockroach in the room. This hotel room is still decent compared to the other hotels in the vicinity. They don’t ever upgrade the rooms!! I have to say that the service staff at the reception are just way too cocky because they don’t lack of visitors. They are not very helpful even when I asked them for help to get a taxi. Avoid it if you are picky about cleanliness. Because this place will only get worse as time passes. As I said, they don’t ever invest in maintaining the rooms. Tiles in the bathroom have cracked. Walls are thin too. You can hear the noise from corridor very clearly. Price is fairly cheap. You pay for what you get.

Arrived in the middle of the Chinese Golden Week festival at 8pm. Our booking info said that we had free cancellation up to 6pm that day, after that we would be charged full price for the room. Which was fine by us. On arrival the reception staff informed us that they had cancelled our room at 6pm and it was no longer available. They did, however have a better room at double the price. After trying to reason with them and pointing out that their version of the small print was at odds with ours, we agreed to accept the higher priced room. We were then told it was no longer available and told to leave. As I said it was the height of the 2nd biggest holiday in China, we were tired and had luggage. I then went online where it said that there were still rooms available so I booked one and showed it to reception. They said 'No room available! You go!' The reception staff seemed to find it all very amusing and were smirking at each other a lot. I think the hotel was hoping to make more money from walk ins and Chinese customers because of the holiday. Eventually a compromise was reached and the receptionist found us a hotel 2 doors away for one night at a similar price to our original booking.This seemed to be an inferior hotel but we accepted it as by now it was after 9pm. We had one night in the other hotel, checked out at 10 am and returned to the Guang Dong Hotel as the hotel info said check in was available from 10.00. We were told to leave our bags and return at lunchtime. When we finally checked in our room was small and dingy and no better than the hotel 2 doors away( we had booked a Deluxe Twin Room) but we felt that if we asked for a better room we would just be told to leave again. A horrible experience. Because of all the bother we didn't see much of the city and came away with a very negative impression.
